Step 1: Journal
Step 2: Mark It Up/Highlight Themes

While listening to "New Wine" and reading lyrics I found three themes that stood out to me. I used green colored pencil to highlight what God is doing. God is crushing, pressing, making, breaking, making me. Purple designates the product of what God is doing in your life: new wine, new ground making you his vessel and an offering, anything he wants me to be. Finally, what I highlighted in blue is what we must do, which is to surrender, yield, trust, and to come to him. Isn't it amazing how little he asks of us?
Step 3&4: Finding Scripture

The above scriptures were ones that I found to go along with the lyrics for "New Wine" by Hillsong Worship. Honestly Google is my best friend when looking for scripture on a certain subject or theme. I also have some favorite sites, such as openbible.com. Overall, I thing Matthew 9:17 was the overarching scripture that this song is exploring. However, they also discuss new soil, trusting the Lord, and many more subjects that are scripture-based and can enrich your experience of the song and scripture.
Step 5: Creative Flow

In this Creative flow I decided on a sketch of a bunch of ideas that this song put on my heart. The new ground and good soil is over the sin, and the wine skin (my heart) is being pierced to let God in and to allow blooming and flourishing in my life. As I've expressed earlier, Creative Flow is just a visual expression. It doesn't have to be a masterpiece. It's just something to visually remind you of what God was speaking to you during the study.
Step 6: Sealing It In

I know I've always struggled with Matthew 9:17 and the meaning behind it. It was so transformative to go through commentary and get the full context of what Jesus was discussing here. As you can see, if you can read my handwriting, my big take away was that Jesus taught slowly at his disciples pace, making sure they were ready. In doing this, he made sure that they did not attach the new teachings to the old ways and become hypocritical.
